A few km southwest of Hildesheim, along the B243 en route to Bockenem, is the Automuseum Störy. It has 130 mini-cars and an equal number of motorcycles, mostly from the 1950s. Many of these cars, including the miniscule BMW Isetta (above), the Goggo, and the Messerschmitt, are the vehicles that made Germans mobile again after the devastation of World War II – a far cry for the powerful cars seen on the Autobahns these days. Opening hours are weekends, mid-March to October from 10 am to 6 pm.
